ADOBE AUTOCAD
WHAT IS AN ADOBE AUTOCAD?
THE xref autocad is short for eXternal REFerence or external reference. It is an external file that can be linked as a reference to another drawing, making it part of the mother draw. Although an xref autocad presents itself as part of a drawing, it is not. It is only a link that reading the corresponding drawing as soon as the mother drawing is opened.WHEN IS AN XREF AUTOCAD APPLIED AND WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS?
An xref autocad can be used temporarily as a base but also as a permanent part of a drawing. By splitting parts or disciplines within a drawing, several people can work on one drawing at the same time. An xref autocad can be used as part of multiple drawings. An example is a master drawing that is placed as xref autocad under all floor plans. All floor plans share the same axes. By applying xref autocad , the file size of the parent file remains small. xref autocad are not physically part of the drawing but as a link. After a regeneration (RAIN) or reading the mother drawing, an xref autocad is always updated. By storing xref autocad regularly, fellow employees are always up to date with the latest changes. xref autocad can be easily switched on and off with a button. If a drawing contains a lot of information, it may be useful to temporarily disable one or more xref autocad to make it clear and more workable.WHAT FILE FORMATS CAN BE USED AS XREF AUTOCAD ?
In many cases, a drawing in it will be. DWG format as the reference is added. However, it is also possible to use other file formats. When the xref autocad command is entered, the window below follows. If you click on the ATTACH icon, AutoCAD offers the following possibilities:
DWG: The standard AutoCAD file format. Image: Images such as Bmp. Jpg. Png. TIFF, etc. DWF: The Design Web Format: Dwf. DWFX. DGN: The Microstation file format. PDF: The document format Adobe Portable Format. Point Cloud: RCP and. RCS files. Coordination Model: NWD and. NWC files from Navisworks. Pairing a DWG. To link an AutoCAD drawing as an external reference, the command xref autocad or EXTERNAL REFERENCES in the command line window must be performed. This can also be done via the small arrow at the bottom right of the Reference panel in the ribbon below the Insert tab. image Other commands to add any external credentials are XATTACH for just one. DWG and ATTACH for all possibilities. When the xref autocad or EXTERNAL REFERENCES command is executed, the External Reference palette will be displayed.
THEN YOU CLICK ON THE DART AT THE ATTACH ICON AND CHOOSE "ATTACH DWG
This is followed by a dialog box to select and open the reference file. When the reference file is selected, a dialog window follows with several options This dialog box is very similar to the block add window, see INSERT. In this window, it is possible to do several settings regarding the placement of the xref autocad : reference type, scale factor, positioning, and rotation. Reference Type - or reference type - determines how the xref autocad will behave when nested. The difference between Attachment and Overlay is only visible when the xref autocad is in a drawing and that drawing is part of another drawing. A nested xref autocad will be shown in the Attachment, but not with Overlay. For architectural drawings, an XREF will usually be on Attachment while for civilian drawings Overlays will be used the most. Scale factor determines the degree of desalinization of the original. In this example, it is set at 1, which means that no change is applied. When the "Specify On-screen" box is checked, the scale can be adjusted as soon as the window closes. The "Insertion point" - or placement point- of the xref autocad is here at 0.0.0 for the x,y, and z-direction. It is advisable to place all xref autocad on the same, obvious point. This can be 0.0.0, but important nodes on the ax system are also easy to use. Rotation speaks for itself. It rotates the xref autocad in the specified number of degrees (-360 to 360). Positive numbers rotate counterclockwise, negative clockwise. Finally, the "Block Unit" is displayed for information. If the units of the parent drawing are the same as those of the xref autocad , the scale factor will be 1. If the units of the mother drawing are not the same as those of the xref autocad, the scale factor will reflect the value of their conversion. Once the link is realized, the external reference will be visible in the drawing and the list of the External reference tool palette. In this example, drawing A.DWG is added as an external reference to the mother drawing that displays the Status as "Loaded" and the Type as "Attach".In xref autocad part 2 we go into the advanced techniques of working with xref autocad
